Advanced Board
& Train Programs

When a dog is struggling with ongoing behavior challenges, weekly lessons alone are not always enough. Some dogs need a higher level of structure, consistency, and professional oversight to create meaningful, lasting change.

At Performance K9 Training, our Advanced Board & Train Programs are designed for dogs with moderate to severe behavior challenges, including reactivity, fear, anxiety, and aggression, who benefit from immersive training in a controlled, professional environment.

These programs allow your dog to live and train with our experienced dog trainers while learning the skills, boundaries, and coping strategies needed to support improved behavior during training and long after returning home.

What Is an Advanced Board & Train Program?

An Advanced Board & Train program is an immersive dog training experience where your dog stays at our facility for an extended period and works daily with professional trainers. Unlike basic obedience programs, advanced board and train focuses on behavior modification, emotional regulation, and reliable obedience in real-world situations.

These programs are designed to address deeper behavioral challenges such as reactivity, anxiety, aggression, and impulse control by creating consistent structure, clear communication, and carefully managed training scenarios.

Advanced Board & Train programs differ from:

  • Basic obedience training, which focuses primarily on foundational essential commands for the basic training skills.

  • Private lessons, which rely heavily on owners implementing training between sessions to achieve your dog training goals.

  • Short-term training stays, which may not provide enough time or structure for meaningful behavior change.

Advanced board and train programs typically span multiple weeks and include daily training sessions designed to help dogs develop improved behavior, better decision-making skills, and greater reliability in a variety of environments after being in this exclusive train board environment.

It’s important to understand that board and train is not a shortcut or a guaranteed solution for your dog to become a well behaved dog. Instead, it provides a structured training foundation that requires continued follow-through at home, which is why owner education and post-program lessons are a core component of our approach.

Is an Advanced Board & Train Program Right for Your Dog?

Not every dog requires an advanced board and train program. However, many dogs benefit from this level of training when behavior challenges have become difficult to manage at home.

An Advanced Board & Train program may be a good fit if your dog is experiencing:

  • Ongoing reactivity toward people or other dogs
  • Anxiety or fear-based behaviors that interfere with daily life
  • Aggressive behaviors or safety concerns
  • Impulse control challenges that are difficult to manage consistently
  • Behavioral habits that have not improved with weekly lessons alone
  • A need for a structured reset in a professional training environment

Board & Train programs are often recommended when owners feel overwhelmed, unsure how to progress, or unable to create the consistency their dog needs.

Board & Train vs. Private Lessons

Private lessons can be very effective for many dogs, particularly when behavior challenges are mild or moderate. For dogs with more complex issues, however, private lessons may progress more slowly or the dog training needs to rely heavily on perfect implementation at home.

Advanced Board & Train programs allow trainers to:

  • Work through behavior patterns daily
  • Control training variables and environments
  • Address challenging behaviors safely
  • Build reliable foundations before transitioning skills back to the owner

When Board & Train May Not Be the Best Fit

Dogs who primarily need help with leash manners, basic obedience, or early puppy skills may be better suited for private lessons, puppy training, or Good Dog Leash Camp. During your consultation, we’ll help determine which program aligns best with your dog’s needs and your goals.

Board & Train vs. Private Lessons

Enrolling in one of our board and train programs begins with a consultation. During this process, our team evaluates your dog’s behavior, discusses your goals, and recommends the most appropriate training path.

We offer board and train options for dogs at different life stages. For puppies and young dogs, early training programs focus on building a solid behavioral foundation and preventing the development of unwanted habits. For adult dogs, board and train programs focus on reinforcing obedience, improving behavior, and addressing existing challenges in a safe environment and structured setting.

Our Advanced Board & Train Program Options

Behavior challenges are not one-size-fits-all. That’s why Performance K9 Training offers multiple Advanced Board & Train program paths, each designed to address different types and levels of behavioral needs.

Advanced Behavior Modification

This program is designed for dogs struggling with anxiety, reactivity, and impulse control. Dogs in this category may become overstimulated, shut down, or react strongly to their environment.

Training focuses on:

  • Developing healthier responses to triggers

  • Improving emotional regulation and coping skills
  • Building confidence through structured training to become a more confident dog
  • Strengthening communication between dog and handler

Dogs benefit from consistent routines, gradual exposure to triggers, and carefully managed training sessions designed to support long-term behavior improvement.

Aggression Rehabilitation

Aggression Rehabilitation is intended for dogs displaying aggressive behaviors toward people or other dogs, including those with a bite history or higher-risk concerns.

This program prioritizes:

  • Safety for dogs, handlers, and the public
  • Structured, controlled training environments
  • Clear boundaries and expectations
  • Addressing underlying causes of aggressive behavior

Each dog is carefully evaluated to determine whether this program is appropriate and what level of support is required.

Basic Behavior Modification

Basic Behavior Modification is ideal for dogs who need a foundational behavioral reset but do not require intensive aggression work. These dogs may struggle with inconsistent obedience, poor manners, or unwanted habits that have become difficult to manage at home.

This program covers:

  • Establishing consistent structure
  • Improving basic obedience reliability
  • Addressing unwanted behaviors through clear communication
  • Preparing dogs for more advanced training when appropriate

Training Approach and Methods

At Performance K9 Training, our approach combines positive reinforcement with clear structure and guidance. Our trainers use reward-based techniques to encourage desired behaviors while providing appropriate feedback to help dogs understand expectations.

Training tools may be incorporated when appropriate and are used responsibly under professional supervision, always with the dog’s well-being in mind. Every training plan is customized to the individual dog, focusing on behavior improvement, obedience reliability, and long-term success.

What to Expect During Your Dog’s Board & Train Stay

Every Board & Train program begins with an intake evaluation to assess your dog’s behavior, training history, and individual needs.

During your dog’s stay, training typically includes:

  • Structured daily training sessions
  • Controlled exposure to relevant real-world scenarios
  • Consistent routines to reinforce learning
  • Ongoing behavior assessments and adjustments
  • Focus on both obedience and everyday lifestyle skills

Pet parents receive regular updates throughout the program so they can stay informed about progress and development.

Because dogs participate in daily training sessions, board and train programs can accelerate the learning process compared to weekly private lessons. While timelines vary by dog, this structured approach allows many dogs to build a solid foundation of obedience and behavior skills within a defined training period, such as a two- or three-week program.

What Each Advanced Board and Train Program Includes

Each advanced board and train program includes structured dog training, daily work with professional dog trainers, and personalized training packages designed around your dog’s behavior and training needs.

While each program is customized to the individual dog, Advanced Board & Train programs typically include:

  • A two- or three-week immersive training stay (program dependent)
  • Daily training with experienced professional trainers
  • Regular progress updates during the stay
  • Private follow-up lessons after completion
  • Owner education and transition support

These elements are designed to help ensure training progress continues after your dog returns home.

Life After Board & Train: Supporting Long-Term Success

Training continues beyond your dog’s stay. Owner follow-up sessions are common to maintain the skills learned in training. These follow-up private lessons help pet parents learn proper handling techniques, reinforce training at home, and address real-world challenges.

Post-program support focuses on:

  • Transferring skills from trainer to owner
  • Maintaining structure and consistency
  • Preventing regression
  • Supporting long-term behavior improvement

Training Facility Standards and Real-World Application

Our board and train programs take place in a controlled training environment designed to support safe, structured learning for dogs with a wide range of behavior challenges. Dogs receive daily supervision, individualized training sessions, and consistent routines that promote clarity and confidence.

Training focuses on real-world application of skills, including leash obedience, house manners, crate training, and appropriate behavior around other dogs and people. By practicing skills in varied environments, dogs learn how to apply their training beyond the facility and into everyday life.

For dogs with more severe behaviors, our training programs emphasize safety, structure, and gradual progress. Each training plan is adapted to the individual dog, ensuring that techniques remain appropriate, humane, and effective.
