Founded by acclaimed dog expert David Greene and operated by Greene and his wife, Christina Macone-Greene (the company’s chief executive officer), Performance K9 Training and Boarding is a leader in the field of dog training in Southern California.

David Greene’s Background

Serving as the chief operating officer of his firm, David Greene is well known both nationally and internationally for his extraordinary gift with dogs. In addition to being a five-time regional Schutzhund/IGP dog competition champion, he’s competed for the United States on four different international teams. During this time, his dogs have finished as high as third in the world and the world cup. His achievements in the U.S. and elsewhere transcend the world of pet dog training.

In addition to his success in dog competitions, David has received worldwide acclaim as a professional dog trainer in the last 15 years, teaching more than 3,000 dogs. David is highly renowned for his competence in cases involving aggressiveness, owing to his specialization in all forms of obedience. Presently, David is a student mentor at the Animal Behavior College in Southern California. Both of the Greenes board of director members of the nonprofit Thor’s Hope Foundation, where David also serves as the training director and Christina as board vice president.

Performance K9 Training and Boarding can assist pet owners in addressing and resolving practically any problem they may be experiencing with their dog. Performance K9 Training offers several training packages for dog owners ranging from one to handle the basics of behavior modification to one specializing in aggression, as well as a program specifically for young puppies. More importantly, after dogs complete the board and train program, pet parents receive private lessons to maintain the training.

Performance K9’s Dog Training Packages

The basic package teaches dogs common skills, such as walking politely when on a leash (for instance, being in the correct position and not pulling or yanking on the leash), the recall command (which gets a dog to return to you when it’s called), and the “go to a [specified] place” command. All of these skills are taught in circumstances where there are partial distractions. For part of the time, dogs are kept off-leash, so they can learn the behaviors in both conditions (leashed and unleashed).

Performance K9 Training’s advanced package runs a week longer than the basic package, but the same skills are taught, in this case, with a full complement of distractions. The difference in the more extended package is that dogs receive more repetitions, and dogs also get considerable time to learn and practice their skills off-leash.

For dogs that have undesirable aggressive behavior, Performance K9 Training can train them individually to help mitigate their reactive tendencies, which may include snapping, barking, and lunging at other dogs or people. Not all dog trainers are competent in dealing with aggressive dogs; aggressive behavior modification is one of Performance K9 Training’s specialties.

Another package that Performance K9 Training offers is named the Yappy Puppy Program. It focuses on puppies that are less than five months old. Two private lessons can help puppies with potty training, crate training, socialization, mouthing, biting, jumping, shyness, and other issues. Once pups reach five months old and have completed all their necessary shots, they can start one of the board and train programs.

Other Services Performance K9 Offers

In addition to dog training packages (some of which include boarding for the dog), Performance K9 Training offers standalone boarding and dog daycare.

Performance K9 Training’s facility is a fully fenced, one-acre property that offers dogs plenty of space to roam and play and an indoor/outdoor kennel area that incorporates air conditioning, disinfection technology, and top-shelf ventilation. There are also plush blankets or cozy Kuranda dog beds in choice suites for a good night’s sleep for your pup. Multiple yards allow for solo play and/or group play activities.

Staff members monitor and supervise all canine guests for Monday through Friday dog daycare programs available by reservation. (Note that all dogs dropped off for daycare programs must be neutered or spayed and must be up to date with their parvo/distemper vaccine, rabies vaccine, bordetella treatment, tick and flea control, negative fecal test, and influenza status.)

To enroll your dog in any of the programs highlighted above or take advantage of the services listed, contact us, email, or call (760) 685-6804.
